Cornwall Lottery Projects Need Your Vote!

Three Cornwall-based projects need your vote this week as they go head to head with other Lottery-funded projects from across the UK in the semi-finals of The National Lottery Awards 2010.

The National Lottery Awards are an annual search to find the UK's favourite Lottery-funded projects. All the projects in the running have already received Lottery funding and the Awards celebrate how they have put that money to good use. People in Cornwall are being urged to show their support by casting a vote to help local organisations make it through to the finals.

The semi-finalists from Cornwall are:

•Trelander and St Clements Community Hall in Truro – competing for Best Environment Project. The Trelander and St Clements Community Hall provides a space for all members of the community to engage in a variety of activities and events. The hall is completely environmentally friendly and sustainable, with a sedum roof, solar panels, lamb's wool insulation and more. To register your vote for Trelander and St Clements Community Hall call 0844 686 3235 or log on to www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards.

•Lighthouses: Life on the Rocks in Falmouth – competing for Best Heritage Project. Lighthouses: Life on the Rocks is a two-year project run by the National Maritime Museum Cornwall. It shines a light on the world of lighthouses and their keepers, through a major exhibition of objects, both large and small, an oral history project, an education programme and an online exhibition. The project received Lottery funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Awards For All. To register your vote for Lighthouses: Life on the Rocks call 0844 686 7951 or log on to www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards.

•Kidz R Us in St. Ives – competing for Best Arts Project. Located in an old chapel in the centre of St. Ives, Kidz R Us is a theatre and performing arts group for children in and around the local community. The group aims to provide accessible, year-round entertainment in musical theatre and drama for local residents and visitors, encouraging children from all backgrounds to take part. To register your vote for Kidz R Us call 0844 686 8074 or log on to www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards.

The winning project in each of the seven categories will receive national recognition on a star-studded BBC 1 TV show later this year and, in addition to the Lottery funding they have already been awarded, will receive a £2,000 cash prize to spend on their project.

This year's National Lottery Awards are supported by actress Fay Ripley, who attended last year's Awards ceremony, which was broadcast on BBC1. She says: “Lottery players raise £25 million every week, which funds projects and organisations that are making a difference to people and communities across the UK. The National Lottery Awards recognise the amazing talent and hard work of the people involved in running Lottery-funded projects, so please get behind your local projects and vote to give them your support.”

About The National Lottery Awards

The National Lottery Awards recognise the difference that Lottery-funded projects – both big and small – make to local communities, and celebrate the achievements of the people behind them. The Awards have seven categories – each reflecting an area of Lottery funding: sport; heritage; arts; environment; education; health (in association with iVillage.co.uk) and voluntary/charity (in association with Woman magazine).

Voting for the semi-finals starts at 9am on Tuesday 1 June and ends at midday on Friday 18 June. For more information or to cast a vote go to www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards

The three projects in each category with the highest number of votes will go through to the final round of public voting in July.
